The action takes place in 1916-1927. At the time of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov in the Winter Palace. To the eight-year-old Princess Anastasia Romanova, daughter of the last Russian Emperor Nikolai II, her grandmother, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, gives her a pendant with a French inscription "Until I meet you in Paris" and a music box, which opens with the help of the pendant.
The ball is upset by the evil lord of the dark forces, Grigory Rasputin, once an advisor to the tsar's court before he was expelled for treatment, for which he swore revenge and sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for a magic flask-artifact, in which the dark forces are encased. He curses the royal family and all of Russia in general.
